The Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center at the University of Aarhus (iNANO) was founded in January 2002 to promote collaborative interactions that cross traditional scientific boundaries between research groups with competences in physics, chemistry, molecular biology, biology and medicine. At the moment iNANO has the active participation of 60 senior researchers, 45 junior researchers and 123 PhD students, who conduct research at the highest international level in the areas of nanoscience and nanotechnologies.

iNANO is performing state-of-the-art research in the areas of nanomedicine, drug delivery, biocompatibility, implants, nanobiosensors, nanocatalysis, hydrogen technology, nanoscale materials design, functional nanomaterials, nanophotonics, nanofood, and basic nanoscience research. On aspects concerning nanoethics, iNANO collaborates with the Centre for Bio and Nanoethics at the University of Aarhus.

In September 2002, iNANO lead the way to establish a new interdisciplinary curriculum in nanoscience and nanotechnology at the University of Aarhus. iNANO now offers undergraduate level courses that gives access to an interdisciplinary Bachelor’s degree programme in Nanotechnology and a Master degree in Nanotechnology. After four years of studies, selected students can apply to the Centre graduate school, the iNANOschool, to pursue a degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Nanotechnology.

The centre is also actively engaged in education, outreach and communication for primary and secondary schools, as well as the general public.

We are now looking for the next generation of NANOYOU pilot schools!

During the 2009-2010 academic year 25 pilot schools have been teaching NT in their classrooms with a wide range of materials, including videos, online animations, games, workshops, virtual dialogues, and virtual experiments based on current research. The second call for pilot schools is now open.
