La nanociencia es el estudio de fenómenos y la manipulación de materiales a nanoescala, donde las propiedades difieren considerablemente de las observadas a mayor escala. La nanoescala va de los 100 nanómetros hasta el nivel atómico (1 nanómetro es la millonésima parte de 1 milímetro).

Manipulando la forma y el tamaño a escala nanométrica, los científicos producen una gran variedad de aplicaciones que se benefician de las propiedades que este tamaño ofrece. Hoy en día, miles de investigadores en todo el mundo analizan los beneficios aportados por las NT a través de la concepción, caracterización y producción de nuevas estructuras, dispositivos y sistemas.
